Re: Defoe
Will never happen, apparently he is on big money and would command a decent fee, irrelevant though as the Mackems will not let him go, his contract runs to 2019 and has a relegation clause, so he can walk if they go down. Besides our skinflint owners wouldn't spend the money.

Re: Defoe
Sunderland will be fucking mental to let him go, can't see the price anywhere near £6m, so with it likely being closer to £26m, it's a no from me

He's also 34, I think he's got about an £80k a week deal up till near 37, so again it's a no from me

Re: Defoe
How long does the word 'back' apply for? Didn't he leave about 100 years ago.

He aint coming 'back' because for one he's an old cunt, and for two Sunderland won't let him leave.

That aside, this has aready been discussed on here, so a piss poor thread all round.

Re: Defoe
People keep talking about short memories - it was 2002 wasnt it when all the shit happened. 14 years ago.

He was a young adult, and he fully acknowledges he made bad choices.

Havent we all!?

At least he had the balls to admit that - more than once, which is more than can be said for some ex players.

few can doubt his current ability. Granted, its a one year at best option (IF) it came off.

Worst that can happen (IF) he comes back - he doesnt fire and it doesnt work. - Read Zaza/Caviler(or whatever his name was)/others

Best that can heppen - He pops a few in, helps us in the remainder of the season and manges to pay back some of the nonsense from a few years back.

I dont think it will happen, but hey, if it does, lets see

Re: Defoe
In a heartbeat, yes. Sunderland will put a silly price tag on him to scare everyone off though. The time to sign him was when he left Toronto. Sunderland look pretty fucked, but without him they might as well throw the towel in now.

Re: Defoe
How much did that trio of numbnuts Zaza,Calleri and Tore cost us so far this season? Not one goal from any of them.

Someone guaranteed to score 15 a season for the next couple of years or so is worth whatever it takes.
So I am IN IN IN.

Re: Defoe
No, not for me.

He's 34 and probably only has another season in him. If we were really struggling and relegation looked likely it would be a different story. But we're not.

We need to invest in the future. That doesn't mean not investing in the now, but it should mean looking beyond the immediate short term.

Re: Defoe
Can't for the life of me see why anyone would want this. He's 34 ffs. 6 million and about 100 bags a week for someone who we might get a year out of if we're lucky. Just sounds like the equivalent of yet another very expensive loan deal that solves precisely nothing, parks and problem for a year and then leaves people having hissy fits about not spending enough. Hard to do when you're constantly spending (wasting) dead money

Vexed 5:09 Thu Dec 29
Re: Defoe
I dont think he's particularly good. He's half decent, that's about as far as it goes. Old, a cunt, expensive considering his age. No long term gain, just long term shame and we've got plenty of that already.

There are no good reasons to buy this little cunt.

Re: Defoe
bsp

i wouldn't get too carried away mate, yes we've had three wins on the spin but two were very hard fought draws in which we didn't exactly look like the better team throughout each game, and i highly doubt if we will play another team as poor as swansea played this season. few tricky games coming up and we could easily be hovering above the relegation zone sooner than you think.

I wasn't suggesting we are safe. However we're hardly in a position where we need to panic buy, which is what I think Defoe would constitute.

Some people suggested Bacca was a short term option at 29. God knows what that makes Defoe.

Bacca a short term option? Lol.

Defoe wouldn't be a panic buy, he would be a stop gap and a very decent 2nd/3rd striker for next season.

Re: Defoe
Stewie... Two things really. You are right, it's a short term fix. But a good fix.

Secondly, if our owners decide to spend and invest in a long term strategy, it's not worth it,agreed.

*gets Defoe printed on back of shirt*
